After a European tour that One Direction would be proud of, teen sensation Martin Odegaard finally made his decision and has signed for Real Madrid.
Many were bewildered regarding the saga surrounding the then 15 year old, with clubs such as Man United, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Ajax (via BBC Sport) all interested in snapping up the teenager.
Making his debut at just 15 in August, Odegaard quickly caught the attention and the fight to land the starlet has been on ever since.
Real Madrid officially announce the signing of Martin Odegaard
Real Madrid, despite their illustrious history, do not have a reputation for bringing through young talent with the legendary Iker Casillas the last academy graduate to forge a burgeoning career at the club.
The likes of Jese and Alvaro Morata threatened to buck the trend, but Florentino Perez’s ‘galactico’ philosophy meant that Morata was sold to Juventus and Jese is struggling to get back in the team following a cruciate knee ligament injury suffered last season.
Odegaard is Los Blanco’s latest hope and it is fair to say that the fear still remains around Europe that the young Norwegian may have been better off joining a club which prides itself on the emergence of youth. The rumours of the 16 year old earning €80,000 (via Daily Star) a week captured much attention.
We’ll just have to wait and see how this pans out; here’s how Twitter reacted to the news that Odegaard has indeed joined Real Madrid:

So, Martin Odegaard, what on earth made you say ‘Yes’ to 10-times European champions, offering you wages of £80,000 per week, aged 16?
